Countrified Monthly – April 2021
By Laura Klonowski (Founder, Music & Tour News)
April has been such a busy month for me and I’m so grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and the incredible music that was shared throughout the month by the brilliant country artists has been so inspiring.
I have been so in awe of the gifted performers who have shared new releases over the past four-weeks including the lovely Louise Parker who shared her wonderful debut album ‘Living In Silver Linings’ which is a collection you definitely need to check out. I am also obsessed with The Shires’ wonderful collaboration with Jimmie Allen for ‘On The Day I Die’ – it’s truly incredible.
I have also had the live version of Carly Pearce’s ‘I Hope You’re Happy Now’, and Kevin McGuire’s breathtaking piano version of ‘Seeing Things’ on repeat. During April I have also discovered a new favourite – Walker County. These incredible sisters are so talented it’s mind-blowing. They are like a combination of The Shires and Kelsea Ballerini and they are so worth checking out if you’re looking for a new band to fall in love with.
I’ve been super impressed by the quality of content the likes of The Rising, Exit 216, Adele and Andy, and Chrissy Metz have been sharing. There is so much talent within the scene it’s just such an exciting time right now.
And The Wandering Hearts have stepped it up big time this month too, especially with their latest release ‘Dolores’ which is such a powerful release all about mental health, and being kind. This one needs to be heard by everyone right now.
April saw Twinnie celebrating the 1 year anniversary of her debut album ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ and to mark the occasion she shared a stunning five-track reimagined EP exclusively to Bandcamp and it is phenomenal. She is such a wonderful asset to the UK scene and the record sees her delivering a soundscape fusion of Dua Lipa meets Shania Twain.
April also saw Twinnie formally announcing details of her I KNOW A WOMAN project which she has launched alongside Summer Overstreet with the initiative being created by the pair to support all women across multiple creative fields and to build a community of talent. I’m so excited for all the plans they have in place and to see what comes next.
The likes of Chris Moreno, Tim Prottey-Jones, Taylor Red, Wildwood Kin, Stephanie Nash, and Chris Lane have also been sharing wonderful songs that offer listeners a much-needed escape from the every day life right now.
And one of my top moments from this past month came when Ward Thomas announced that they will be playing live across the UK from May with a series of busking gigs right up until November all in aid of climate change. I cannot wait to finally get to see them perform live again after more than a year. It’s going to be so wonderful to be out in the street hearing their soaring sister harmonies and to be surrounded (safely) by fellow country music fans once again.
It’s been so hard not being able to go to concerts so to have something like this on the horizon is super exciting and I cannot wait to be able to celebrate Catherine and Lizzy’s new album ‘Invitation’ with an actual live gig. Plus it’s all for a great cause which makes it even better.
I have really been inspired by this past month and I look forward to what’s coming in May from all the talent across the country artists both in the UK and beyond.
