Countrified Monthly – January 2021

There is something truly exciting about a New Year isn’t there? All those feelings of new beginnings and of course it welcomes brand new music for us to get our ears around which is of course always one of the best parts especially if it means the start of a new era for our favourite artists.
January has certainly delivered when it comes to brilliant new releases, we have had some wonderful singles and albums too already – tantalizing stuff when you think we are only four weeks into 2021.
Some of my favourite offerings have come from our very own UK acts – with Ward Thomas showcasing their stunning harmonies with their sublime version of Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’ being a particular highlight but of course Scotland’s Kerri Watt has also shone with her debut album ‘Neptune’s Daughter’ offering an intoxicating soundscape of hybrid styles.
And then we’ve had the tongue-in-cheek promo track from pop crossover sensation Twinnie with the York performer sharing the quirky ‘Karen’ across social media allowing for her to reach a new demographic. Across the pond, we’ve also had exciting news from adopted Brit Sarah Darling who has confirmed that she has a show coming to Country Line TV with ‘Darling Does’ due to premiere very shortly.
And proving how eclectic the growing country scene is we have also been treated to a glorious Spanish rendition of ‘Never Have I Ever’ from American sweetheart Danielle Bradbery with ‘Yo Nunca He’ bringing a whole new fanbase to the country genre.
I have also loved the new music videos we’ve been treated to in January too, with ‘Lightning Strikes’ from The Shires and Lauren Alaina lighting up our feeds, and the cinematic ‘Blame It On You’ clip from Jason Aldean giving us serious vibes. And for the fun factor, we have had the uptempo ‘Baby Had Your Fun’ visual from Joe McElderry who makes a welcome arrival to the country world following years of making pop hits. He is an exciting addition to the market and will no doubt entice a broad new audience to the genre.
Other artists that have blown me away in January include the likes of Hailey Whitters, Willie Jones, O&O, Maren Morris, Lainey Wilson, Tim Prottey-Jones, Emilia Quinn, and so many more with them all helping to push the boundaries of country music even further.
And as the scene continues to grow it is these types of artists who are unafraid to cross genre lines and incorporate different styles into the sound that will further enhance the reach of country music and introduce it to younger fans across the globe.
It’s an exciting time right now in country music and as shown by January’s release calendar there is talent in abundance across the board from homegrown acts such as Ward Thomas, and Twinnie to international superstars like Jason Aldean, and Maren Morris there really is a performer for everyone to enjoy.
I have been super enthralled by the month of January and have loved listening to my favourites artists and delving into their newest releases but it’s also been a great few weeks, especially as we are in lockdown to discover new artists and I have loved getting stuck into music from the likes of Brooke Eden, Andrew Beam, Lucy Blu, and Harriet Rose all of which have shared some incredible new releases.
