HANNAH MAY DROPS BRAND NEW TRACK ‘LAY ME DOWN FOR RELEASE 4TH SEPTEMBER 2020
Rising Kiwi cross over artist Hannah May releases her fourth solo pop-country single ‘Lay Me Down’.Written solely by May and produced by Brisbane’s own Aria Nominated music producer, Stuart Stuart of Analog Heart Records (The Veronicas, Sheppard, Dean Lewis), the track debuts a mature theme of passion and playfulness in a romantic relationship and shows off May’s strong yet smooth vocal style. With strong pop production influence and suggestive lyrics, May is creating her own unique genre somewhere in between commercial pop and country.
Hannah May had her start in 2015 where she and her former duo partner Abby Christodoulou from Mae Valley placed 7th on the hit TV series The X Factor NZ after being put together on the show. The pair released 3 hit country singles and an EP through Sony NZ following it up with a national headlining tour. Mae Valley opened for artists such as Kelsey BALLERINI, KEITH URBAN and CARRIE UNDERWOOD and performed to a crowd of 10,000 at Wellington NZ’s Westpac Stadium. Now a solo artist, Hannah has released three singles ‘Finally’, ‘Passenger Seat’ and ‘Pretty Girl’ and has racked up over 100k Spotify streams as a completely independent artist. With the music industry taking a hit, 2020 has been a year of perseverance with the release of music and being named a top 10 grand finalist in the prestigious Toyota Star Maker Competition held in Tamworth, NSW in January.

Hannah May was the ripe age of 6 when she first stepped on stage to perform. May’ssinging ability and stage confidence comes from years of experience in the music scene, performing to crowds across Australia and New Zealand from a very young age. It wasn’t until 2015 that Hannah truly decided her fate as a music artist as she entered the television series The X Factor NZ as a solo artist. After making it through the first couple rounds of the show, May was paired with another country singer Abby Christodoulou forming the duo, Mae Valley. They successfully placed 7th in the entire competition and were quickly picked up by record label Sony NZ. The pair released 3 hit country singles and an EP through Sony NZ following it up with a headlining tour. Mae Valley also opened for artists such as KELSEA BALLERINI, KEITH URBAN and CARRIE UNDERWOOD performing to a crowd of 10,000 at Wellington, NZ’s Westpac Stadium. But things are not always what they seem and after much deliberation, May made the tough choice to leave the duo and begin a career as a solo artist. In April of 2019, the songwriter packed up everything and moved to Australia taking her dreams with her. She describes 2019 as ‘the most challenging and inspiring year of her life so far’. She spent the year writing and gigging every weekend and quickly began paving her way in the Australian music scene with the release of her debut single ‘Passenger Seat’ which caught the attention of various New Zealand and Australian music blogs and radio stations. The track also racked up close to80,000 organic Spotify streams. On top of this, she was named one of the top 10 grand finalists in the 2020 Toyota Star maker competition held in Tamworth in January. Like most, 2020 has been a tough pill to swallow but for Hannah, it has pushed her to write and release more music. In June, Hannah released her bold and honest track ‘Pretty Girl’ which so far has gained her over 30,000 streams, radio play across Australia and New Zealand and was reviewed by a number of music blogs. Soon to be released is May’s newest single ‘Lay Me Down’
