Laura Oakes’ Launches Radio Show on Radio Alty.

British Country artist, Laura Oakes, known throughout the UK for her dazzling festival sets and poptastic country songs as played on BBC Radio 2, will launch her very own radio show ‘This is Country Music’ on Monday 22nd March. Laura’s weekly radio show on Altrincham’s favourite community radio station will champion music from both sides of the pond, honouring musicians from the USA as well as closer to home. With features including ‘Country Hall of Fame’, ‘Country Classic’ and ‘Release of the Week’, the programme will pull from the full spectrum of the country genre, playing out the classics and honouring the legends as well as spotlighting the best new talent and the week’s new releases. Fans can expect to hear in one hour of listening everything from Vince Gill and Dolly Parton to Ward Thomas and Jimmie Allen.

About her inaugural radio show, Laura announced “I’m so excited to be joining Radio Alty and getting the opportunity to play you all of the amazing Country music from around the world! You can expect massive hits songs from some of the world’s biggest country stars and I’m particularly excited to shine a light on the ever-growing British Country music scene. You’ll find loads of your old favourites alongside some brand new sounds. This show is for everyone whether you’re an avid country music fan or just dipping your toe in for the first time. I hope you’ll join me every Monday night at 9pm!”

On Laura joining the station, Station manager Rod Maxwell enthused “When we started RadioAlty at the start of lockdown in 2020 we were keen to cater for a wide variety of music styles, but also to have people present shows on the music they love. Whether it be soul, motown, indie, punk, musicals or new chart tracks – just having people who love the music they play on their shows is the key thing. Country music is a genre that up until now we have not had the chance to include in the schedule and having someone who not only loves that music but is part of the growing UK scene who represents the UK scene around the world as an artist is fantastic.” Radio Alty prides itself on the variety of its broadcast schedule which includes both talk and music. Outside the North West it can be listened to online via the station website, Streema and on all good smart speakers.

About Radio Alty:

Radio Alty is a radio community station established in early 2020 and launched just as the first lockdown started in the UK. The station is run by volunteers who broadcast from their home studios – spare bedrooms, garden sheds etc – and the team has grown steadily in the last 12 months from 5 volunteers to a team of almost 30 people. We have shows for all age groups and backgrounds and provide the ability for people to get involved and gain experience in broadcast media. Recently the station has partnered with Salford Uni’s media faculty to provide opportunities for members of that course to get real life experience of creating their own radio shows. Radio Alty is part of Altrincham Community Media (ACM) which is a voluntary organisation providing opportunities for people to get involved in all aspects of multi-media. The charity has supported the production of two podcasts during the last year involving local people – ‘Life After 50’ which focuses on the challenges and opportunities of people retired, and ‘Life With No Filter’ which is recorded by four local people who have all suffered some form of brain injury and who share their experiences of what it is like to live with the after shocks and after effects of brain trauma. ACM is a charitable organisation that is funded through it’s members, radio advertising and donations from the public. https://www.radioalty.co.uk/
