Countrified Monthly – May 2021
By Laura Klonowski (Founder, Music & Tour News)
May might have been a total wash-out in terms of the weather but the quality of the country music we were treated to was certainly sunshine-filled. I have been especially impressed by the fantastic ‘Twinnie Tunes Tuesday’s’ YouTube cover series from Brit sensation Twinnie and I also have to give a special mention to the incredible I Know A Woman initiative she has launched alongside fellow country singer/songwriter Summer Overstreet. It’s fantastic to see the movement growing.
Another artist who has been on rotation this past month is the fantastic Mackenzie Wasner. I was lucky enough to meet, and discover Mackenzie during my holiday in Nashville back in February 2020 and have since stayed in touch, and followed her career. And in May she released her stellar new single ‘Red Wine Reminder’ which is a fantastic 90s inspired offering. She is a special talent and an artist that needs to be on everyone’s radar this year.
I am also super excited about the Busking For Our Planet tour Ward Thomas have launched which will seem them busking across different cities throughout the year to raise awareness and funds for multiple environmental charities. It’s brilliant to see live music returning, and for such a great cause too.
I have also been enjoying plenty of new music from the likes of Cassadee Pope, Chris Moreno, Hannah May Allison, Tommy Atkins, Stephanie Ryann, and so many more. One of my personal favourite releases came from Jack and Tim who shared the stand out ‘Love Ain’t Kind’, and I cannot wait to hear their debut album hopefully next year.
Another impressive release this month was the incredible duet from The Shires and Jimmie Allen who teamed up for the new version of ‘On The Day I Die’. I just love the way their voices blend on the track.
Willie Jones is another artist who has had a great May, with the release of his first single via Sony, ‘Down By The Riverside’. He is such a unique performer, and I can’t wait to see what else he has in store this year and beyond. He is a truly fantastic asset to the genre.
It has also been so exciting to see tours being announced again, with the likes of Lady A confirming dates for America, and we can only hope that come 2022 they will be adding UK dates to those tours. It’s been so long for us without live music, but hopefully, things are moving in the right direction and we will all soon be back in venues without any restrictions.
Here’s to a summer of live music!
