New duo Hawthorn Avenue release uplifting new single to lift the spirits
Fresh on the scene, and hailing from South Wales, duo Hawthorn Avenue has already made a splash on the UK country scene with support from BBC Radio 2, Baylen Leonard and Chris Country. Their debut single Wildfire was on the BBC Radio Wales A-list for 4 weeks running, and they have sold out prestigious music venues in both Swansea and Cardiff.
Having met in Swansea and drawn together by their joint love of country music, Marcus Gumms and Laura Benjamin made their debut at Wales’ answer to Downtown Nashville’s’ Honky Tonk Bars, The Bucket List. 12 months on, the pair have released their debut EP, also named Wildfire, and performed up and down the country.
Influenced by both the country and classic rock scene, the duo count Fleetwood Mac, The Wandering Hearts and Striking Matches amongst their many influences. This is clear in their debut, combined with an air of authenticity and freshness.
Brand new single Favourite Feeling is a slight move away from the beautifully dark sounds of Wildfire. Its up-tempo light-hearted nature offers a much-needed respite in these difficult times with a ‘live for the moment’ mantra. In the chorus, they sing: “tomorrow doesn’t matter as tonight my favourite feeling is you.”
“We wrote Favourite Feeling as the summer was starting to emerge in 2019, and we were both appreciating being in happy phases of our lives after weathering the storm for a while. I (Laura) was falling in love, and Marcus was welcoming his newborn son into the world. Life was a big party! The song is a reminder to us to let our hair down every so often… focus on the good and enjoy the moments we’re living in. We hope it helps other people to do the same!”
With its melodious banjo and soaring vocals in perfect harmony, Favourite Feeling is the perfect soundtrack to your Friday night in lockdown.
