Laura Oaks To Release How Big Is Your World (Acoustic) EP.
Following in the wake of the ‘How Big Is Your World’ EP back in early March 2020, Laura Oakes has creatively spent her lockdown working on sumptuous, new acoustic versions of her songs. The restrictions of COVID 19 have been commonplace for musicians but for Laura, it was an opportunity to lock herself away and re-work her latest release to give the songs a new lease of life. Fans can expect a rootsier version of ‘Welcome to the Family’, a delicate take on ‘How Big Is Your World’, a strategically reserved version of ‘Old Ghosts’, and multi-layered, intricate adaption of ‘Better in Blue Jeans’ that features Laura not only on vocals but also guitar, dobro and mandolin. Self-produced between Laura and Luke Barrett, the EP is a true reflection on lockdown during the epidemic, a ‘DIY’ approach that has enabled Laura to expand her creative skills beyond writing and recording to production too.
About the EP, Laura said ‘It’s so crazy that the How Big Is Your World EP was released in the same week we all had to make sure are worlds were as small as they possibly could be. However, lockdown presented an amazing opportunity to really think about the songs differently and put this new project together. I wanted to strip back these new versions to really put the focus on the songwriting and I hope listeners might hear things they didn’t hear the first time or that the songs might evoke a different atmosphere, mood or meaning.’
Support for the full EP earlier this year included the likes of; BBC Radio 2 (playlisted Welcome To The Family), Bob Harris, Chris Country, Country Hits, Maverick Magazine, Digital Fix, Popdust, Countryline TV, Impose Magazine as well as notable playlisting from the DSPS including Apple Music (Country Risers, Soundcheck, Country Wide, Out of the Country and NMD), and Spotify (Very Nearly Nashville) amounting over 500K streams.
