Roseanne Reid releases new EP ‘The September Tapes’
An incredible 2019 saw Roseanne release, and then tour, her acclaimed debut album Trails. Supports tours with Kathy Mattea and Justin Townes Earle, appearances at festivals including The Black Deer Festival and The Long Road, radio appearances on Jools Holland’s Radio 2 show, Robert Elms and in session with Ricky Ross at BBC Scotland (watch here) further enhanced her reputation.
In September Roseanne was invited to play at the Americana Fest in Nashville, where she took the opportunity to record. The result was a collection of three songs , two covers and an original composition Couldn’t Wish More For You, called The September Tapes (listen here).
The covers are two very important songs to Roseanne. You Are My Sunshine she first learned from her Mum growing up in Scotland, a song she sings to this day at soundcheck before each live show.
“Malibu” is one of Roseanne’s favourite songs. This beautiful Miley Cyrus cover retains the stark beauty of the original but Roseanne’s bold acoustic treatment adds a new, more fragile element to the song .
“Couldn’t Wish More For You” is a new song which, amongst others Roseanne has been performing live , signs that perhaps a new album is not too far away!
Roseanne Reid’s songs exude a quiet confidence and sparse authenticity that recalls some of the genre’s leading lights such as Gillian Welch and Lucinda Williams, but with a tone that belongs to Roseanne and no one else. Americana legend Steve Earle was an early admirer and agreed to make a guest appearance on her debut , Teddy Thompson produced album.
