Vic Allen Features on Country Release Friday with “I Can”
The BCMA has teamed up with national promoter MAM Roots to spotlight a new release from an upcoming artist each week. Our first featured artist for Country Release Friday is Vic Allen. Her new single I Can is out now to buy or stream on all major platforms and you can catch an exclusive live performance on IGTV at 2pm today.
We asked Vic Allen what her new single I Can means to her…
“I Can is a really personal song to me – it’s about falling out of love. I wrote it alone, literally minutes after my last relationship ended. We were long distance (he lived in Nashville and I, at the time, lived in Norwich) and we broke up via a very long and emotional phone call. When we finally hung up, this song just poured out of me. It’s everything I wanted to say and is definitely my favourite thing I’ve ever written.
“I’m so grateful for the reaction that fans have had to this song – I play it live quite a lot, and it’s one of my most requested songs at gigs and one that people often ask me to release. I recorded it in London with Sue McMillan, who brought it to life in the most perfect way. The recording process was so much fun – I’d never worked with Sue before so this was our first project together, but she’s so patient and easygoing which made the whole thing just an awesome experience. My good friend and bass player Danny McMahon came to one of the sessions to lay down some bass and backing vocals, and UK country artist Jake Morrell played guitar on it too.
“Being an independent artist, it’s always a little nerve wracking releasing a new song and hoping that it gets heard. But my fans have said some really wonderful things about this one, and so whatever happens I’m just happy to finally be able to share it with them.“

Blending an acoustic-driven sound with strong influences from modern country music, UK artist Vic Allen began songwriting as a teenager, and is now a rising name on the UK scene. The past year has seen the launch of her EP “Enough” at a packed headline show, songs from the EP receiving airplay on Country Hits Radio and BBC stations as well as placement of lead single “Talk“ on Spotify’s official “New Music Nashville” playlist. In November 2019 Vic embarked on a country-wide tour as part of “Write Like a Girl”, and this March visited Nashville to perform at the Song Suffragettes 6th anniversary show and appear on Radio Disney Country.
