Sarah Darling releases new single ‘DIVIDE’ featuring Ward Thomas.
As premiered last night on BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris show, Sarah Darling releases her new single Divide,
featuring guest vocals from UK country duo Ward Thomas. This release precedes Sarah’s hotly-anticipated
Union Chapel show on the 2nd Dec which will feature some of Sarah’s greatest hits, festive classics and special
guest appearances from some of Sarah’s friends in the UK country scene.

Developed once more with two of Sarah’s most trusted songwriting partners Jessica Sharman and Cheyenne Medders,
inspiration for ‘Divide’ initially stirred within Sarah when she was hiking with her husband at the Rocky Mountain National Park.
Feeling moved by the way in which water flowed down all the different streams to meet their final oceanic destination,
Sarah explains that, “As I was standing at the continental divide, I felt something come over me.
I realized that I was standing at the highest elevation, and that would determine which direction water would run down the mountain.
It would divide and go its separate ways to the ocean. I started to think of relationships in my own life, the way the world is, and it felt like such a beautiful metaphor for how life works.
Sometimes people or situations come into your life and you have to let them go. Other times, you see that person down the road, and you realize that time worked all things out.
So many things in life divide to come back together again.”
Starting simply with a single guitar track, Sarah and Cheyenne took an additive approach of building the arrangements until the song became an ‘experience’,
at which point asking Sarah’s dear friends Ward Thomas to feature felt like a natural next step, “I got the idea of asking Ward Thomas to join in once I heard the harmonies really syncing.
This song has this interesting chant which I’ve never written before. It felt like it needed a group of angels, so I asked my dear friends Ward Thomas to join in.
I literally played the track for them at The Queen in Primrose Hill and they loved it! We’ve been great friends ever since I met them. We genuinely inspire each other,
and it’s so nice to have that kind of friendship in the music business. It feels like the perfect collaboration with people I love.”
‘Divide’ follows from her hugely successful 5th album Wonderland, which reached the UK Official Country Artists Charts Number 1,
paving the way for TV appearances such as BBC Breakfast and a host of critical acclaim from the music press.
The phenomenal success of ‘Wonderland’ was a dream come true for the artist whose first UK concert was only 5 years ago, and her fandom in the
UK has grown exponentially since then, a true testament to Sarah’s talent and hard work. It’s not every day that a fully independent country artist can make a
transatlantic dream come true, and with a number 1 album under her belt, Sarah’s future looks the brightest it’s ever been;
“Making ‘Wonderland’ has turned out to be one of the greatest musical adventures I’ve ever had.
Every song tells my story, and imprints this very special time in my life, when I got to create a country album in the UK!”
To close a hugely successful 2019, Sarah will be returning for her final UK performance of the year at the Union Chapel, Islington,
London on December 2nd with a number of very special guests (to be announced in the coming weeks) to kick start the festive season.
Sarah will be performing a mixture of old & new songs in addition to traditional Christmas records to celebrate the winter season.
Through hard graft, years of UK tours, immersing herself in the nation’s country scene and being embraced by the musical and fan communities,
her acceptance by UK country music has been comprehensive. The time spent absorbing the culture and music lead to the early decision to
co-write with a host of top British songwriters. The result – a number 1 country album on the official charts and two
British Country Music Award nominations for ‘International Touring Artist of the Year’ and ‘International Album’.
Her undeniable popularity landed her top spots at some of the biggest UK country music festivals such as Nashville Meets London, FSA Fest, SummerTyne,
Cambridge Folk Festival and the headliner position at the acclaimed British Country Music Festival on September 13th.
