Glasgow-based band OneDay40, who announced earlier this year that they had reformed, have confirmed the release of a second new single. “Charles Alexander (He Never Fought for This) will be released to digital platforms on Tuesday 24th September, and the band have confirmed that proceeds from digital downloads will go to PoppyScotland*.
Formed out of the embers of original country pioneers Evangeline, OneDay40 released the critically acclaimed album “Unfinished Business” in 2007, going on to win the BCMA for “Best Album”. Despite a Nashville record deal, the foursome drifted apart for several years as life got in the way of the music.
Lead songwriters John Naismith and Billy Matthews (after whom the band is named – they are 364 days apart in age) got in touch in 2022 and found that they’d both kept writing. It didn’t take long before the concept for “Finished Business”, a planned 2025 release, was born, with fellow band members George Adams (vocals) and Andy Holmes (drums) joining the writing team.
Andy says “We’re really proud of this new track, which reflects society’s inability to learn the lessons of war, told through the awful – but not unique – story of an individual in WW1”
George added “It’s really quite personal and a bit emotional for us because even though the song is about Billy’s great-great uncle we all have family members who have felt the impact of war”.
“Charles Alexander (He Never Fought for This)” will be available on all digital platforms and in both audio and video formats.
