“This song is about staying true to yourself and keeping a firm hold of your integrity and authenticity, despite external noise and pressure.”
This applies to navigating our lives life in general, with so much seeming out of our own control lately. Sarah’s lyrics speak of keeping her head, refusing to bow down to expectations or temptations, and dealing with put-downs and rejections. And, let’s face it, the music industry is tough. An independent artist needs to not only be a writer and musician but also a manager, business expert, accountant, promotional marketing team, audio and visuals technician, and a social media influencer. Our audience has to put a face to the music, but that aspect can be tough for an artist to deal with sometimes.”
Sarah has been neatly sidestepping other uncomfortable advice on strategies to fast track her career, finding they don’t align with her own internal values. “A test of integrity is what you do behind the scenes when you think no-one is looking, and I want to respect myself, stick to my own lane and stay true to me. I know where I’m going and trust my hard work is going to get me there. Short cuts aren’t for me, the more scenic, peaceful route suits me better!”
There are many humble and hardworking people in this industry. The majority of artists have not come into this to see their own face everywhere, but to make music they are really proud of.
Sarah explains “My promise to my myself and my supporters has always been that I will never compromise on quality. I may not release prolifically but I take incredible care over the creation of each track or album and work with some hugely talented teams to make sure that every track and video is respectful of the reputation of everyone involved and, most crucially, worth the time and money of the listeners and viewers.”
Since she first hit the country scene in 2023 with a chart-topping debut album and singles it’s certainly been hard to predict what to expect from this UK artist with each release. The album I Don’t Give Up Easily recorded in Nashville with producer Fred Mollin (with JD Souther, Kris Kristofferson, Jimmy Webb on his roster of recording artists) demonstrates this well. Tracks range from bluesy reflection to classic country, power ballads, americana and country pop. Her last few singles have been equally diverse, clearly demonstrating the width of her vocal and writing range, and this new single brings yet more surprises. She’s one to watch.
