Matt Hodges, is thrilled to announce the release of his new single, “Blue Ridge Road”. This latest offering from the acclaimed country artist is inspired by a transformative trip to the Smoky Mountains, capturing the serene and introspective moments that defined his experience.
Reflecting on the upcoming release, Matt shared, “I was mid trip in Nashville when myself and a friend, Jesse Scott, decided we needed to get out of town for a few days with the aim to unwind, relax, and find some peace and quiet,” said Hodges. “I had never travelled East to the Smokey Mountains; so we found a cabin on Airbnb called ‘Mountain View Lodge’, situated on Blue Ridge Road, and instantly agreed this was exactly what we were looking for and booked it.”
Matt described the profound impact the trip had on him from the moment they arrived. “We arrived late at night and just couldn’t believe the silence that surrounded us. As we entered the cabin we found ourselves in heaven, and as quoted in the song: ‘looked at each other and said ‘this will do’.” The tranquility of the mountains sparked a wave of creativity in Hodges. “The following morning I stepped out onto the back porch overlooking the mountains – I knew right there and then that I had to write a song.”
“Blue Ridge Road” was born from this serene environment. After a day of exploring and soaking in the peaceful ambiance, Matt returned to the cabin and began penning the song. “It was almost finished, but I felt I needed to be back in the hustle and bustle of Nashville to fully appreciate the tranquility I’d felt in the mountains. On the following Friday I returned to Nashville, played a gig that evening, and on Saturday the song was complete.”
Hodges emphasises the song’s underlying message about the necessity of taking time out to recharge. “To me, this song really highlights the importance of taking some time out, and shows me that we can all benefit from a little bit of calm. I know I will personally make more effort to do this and definitely be heading back to Blue Ridge Road.”
