Michael Pickering releases debut single “One Step”

Hailing from Sunderland, singer-songwriter Michael Pickering always had roots in country and was drawn to the music from a young age the first song he ever sang being ‘When you say nothing at all’ Keith Whitley.

Michael was part of the country duo ‘One Trick Pony’ who exploded on to the UK country scene in 2020 with songs such as ‘Old School’ , ‘Rollercoaster and Dream Chasers making waves which lead the team of Michael and Georgia Lennon to their first Headlining gig at 229 London and their first festival at Millport grasing the Cactus Jack stage along side Sarah Darling but now Michael as decided to change direction and pursue a solo career.

This debut solo single started its journey on Michael’s third day in Nashville while on his way to his first gig – which happened to be at the iconic Bluebird cafe. Michael was reminded of a moment where he was in awe and very proud to be their son.

“I remember I was at some Judo disco with flashing lights, loud music, kids sliding around on their knees and in the middle of the dance floor was my Mam and Dad. Then one of the parents came over as I was watching and told me how incredible they were. To complete the picture, with all that going on, I can’t remember the exact song but it may as well have been ‘Cotton eyed Joe’ and my Mam and Dad were just holding each other doing a step together step together…I thought about all the words of wisdom that my Dad has given me, especially as I was just about to sing a song about my Mam at the Bluebird Cafe, and I thought it only fair that my Dad had a song too. One of the most important things my Dad has ever said to me is “take it one step at a time”.”
