EDITORS CHOICE: Owen Morton drops another 90s-inspired honky tonk country single “She Hates Country Music”

UK rising country artist Owen Morton is giving fans another taste of his upcoming Nashville-recorded album, this time with his honky tonk heartbreak anthem ‘She Hates Country Music’ – and warning, it’s catchy. Written on a zoom call with London-based songwriter Robin Cooper, ‘She Hates Country Music’ is a sharp-witted, barroom story song that flips the genre on its head.

Set in the neon glow of a country bar, it follows a woman who’s sworn off twang and tear-in-your-beer anthems after a cowboy ex left more scars than memories. Echoing this, the song includes the cries of a pedal steel guitar, classic country telecaster fills, and a knowing sense of humour.

It aims to celebrate country music while playfully poking at its clichés. With vivid storytelling and a hook made for late-night jukeboxes, Owen Morton delivers a neo-traditional country cut that feels lived-in, honest, and unmistakably real. He laughingly says about this track “Rob and I wrote this knowing that at some point in our pasts, we had definitely ruined country music for someone out there. And so, why not rub it in even more by writing a song about it.”
