British 5-Piece Chasing Twisters release their debut album “Better in a Hat”

Chasing Twisters combine their British pop and rock upbringings with American country influences to create their own twist of original modern country music.

The “Better In A Hat” album is self-produced with drums and bass recorded at Inspire Music and overseen by Executive Producer and stage sound master Mark Stuart (Magnum, REO Speedwagon) with whom Craig and Dave had previously recorded 2 albums with melodic rock band Tara’s Secret. The album launch is set for 12th April with a show at Grumpy’s in Stoke. Online release is 11th April and CDs will also be available.

Songwriting is shared between Laura Holden AND Craig Chapman, whilst all of the band have contributed plenty to create the songs we hear today. All 12 songs were featured at the band’s first gig in Stafford in April 2022 and the band have enough newer songs to record a 2nd album on the back of whatever success can be generated from “Better In A Hat.”

Both the band name and debut album title come from the song ‘You’ll Play Better In A Hat,” a mad tale of storm-chasing and gigging around Tornado Alley, with the original “Twister” film prompting the 2nd verse line of “Chasing Twisters down in Alberqueque, hail stones big as bats.” A Michael Jackson video with a be-hatted silhouette image led to the line “my silhouette says I’m cool” whilst a (hopefully) Dolly Parton meets Victoria Wood type caper, builds the song.

The band are joined by international violinist Kelly McCusker, for the epic ballad “This Atlantic City” and by another former Tara’s Secret band mate Glyn Styne-Tiers on duet vocals for the song “Just Fine.” The band is represented by CMSM (Country Music Social Media) and will be playing a couple of shows under that banner in Manchester and St Helens, alongside more of their artistes.

Exciting times lie ahead as we are already receiving some very pleasing comments regarding the lead single “Different Kind Of Country” – Laura’s take on “Red Neck Woman” albeit growing up on a farm in the Lincolnshire Fens.

With 2 farmers, 2 army veterans and a truck driver in their ranks, Chasing Twisters couldn’t be more “country,” as a song ready for album 2 states “crossing county lines, across the oceans that divide.”
